Japanese Style Christmas
Christmas Eve and Christmas, December 24th and 25th, are special days also in Japan, but these are a little different from the American style of celebrating. On these days in Japan, the parents who have small children prepare a delicious dinner and presents to give their children. This is similar to American style. However, there are some differences in this. For instance, many Japanese families eat Kentucky Fried Chicken and Christmas cake at a dinner on a Christmas, so many people reserve deep fried chickens and cakes at stores the day before Christmas. Also, these days are very important days for younger people such as university students and single people. In America, a lot of people spend these days with their family, but in Japan, most young people enjoy spending Christmas Eve or Christmas with their girlfriend or boyfriend. Because of this, they are very busy the day before Christmas. For example, men have to make a special date plan, reserve a high quality restaurant, and choose a present for their girlfriend, and women have to prepare fashionable clothing and some accessories for the special date and choose a present for their boyfriend. In particular, on the night of Christmas Eve, towns are filled with many couples. On the other hand, the younger people who don’t have a girlfriend or a boyfriend often feel miserable on these days because most of the stores and restaurants make Christmas fairs or events for couples or families. Some of them shut themself in a room, and others try to form groups of single people to avoid spending the special days alone. In conclusion, Christmas Eve and Christmas are celebrated in Japan as special days, but some of the customs for these days are a little different from American customs.
